Council Inspection?

If you are a commercial building owner,  chances are your local council have inspected your property and have provided you with a detailed list of Essential Safety Measure (ESM) requirements that need to be addressed.

What are Essential Safety Measures (ESM)?

 ESMs are all fire safety measures and systems installed in your building to protect life and property from fires.


All commercial buildings have some degree of ESMs.


To ensure ESMs correctly operate in an emergency, they must be routinely tested to relevant Australian Standards and Building Occupancy Permits.

What is My Obligation as Building Owner?

All commercial building owners and in some cases tenants have a legal obligation to ensure all their ESMs are correctly maintained and in correct working order.  

What are Council and Fire Brigade Roles in ESMs?

Council and Fire Brigade have an enforcement role, they upon notice can inspect your property to ensure all ESMs are correctly maintained, failure correctly maintain your ESMs can attract a fine.
