7-Star NatHERS & Whole of Home ratings

Accredited thermal performance and Whole of Home assessments for new homes and major alterations — with practical design advice so you reach 7 stars without over-spending.

What you get

A rating your surveyor can sign off — and advice you can use

Since the NCC 2022 changes, new Victorian homes need 7 stars for the building fabric plus a Whole of Home assessment of the home’s fixed appliances. We model your design in HERO and give you clear certificates and plain-English notes on what drives the result.

  • NatHERS thermal performance rating from your working drawings
  • Whole of Home assessment included as standard
  • Glazing, insulation and orientation advice to hit the target cost-effectively
  • Stamped plans and NatHERS certificate ready for your building surveyor
  • Standard turnaround 2–5 business days from working drawings · 24–48 hour priority available
NatHERS packages

Choose the level of certainty you want

Every package includes the rating, Whole of Home and the certificate. Pricing is by quote — send your drawings and we’ll come back with a clear scope.

Compliance

Essential

You need a compliant rating for your building permit.

  • 7-star NatHERS thermal rating
  • Whole of Home included
  • NatHERS certificate & stamped plans
Includes 1 minor revision
Most popular Design optimisation

Preferred

You want the best result for the money.

  • Everything in Essential
  • Design optimisation comparing 2 specification options
  • Priority turnaround (24–48 hours)
Includes 1 minor + 1 major revision
As-Built Verification

Verified

You want proof the finished home was built to the modelled specification.

  • Everything in Preferred
  • As-Built Verification — glazing, insulation, services and airtightness checked on site
  • Blower door test (AS/NZS ISO 9972, ATTMA #13381) & measured-ACH re-rate
  • Findings report
  • Geokal Energy Efficiency Certificate of Compliance (non-regulatory)
Includes 2 minor + 2 major revisions

Minor revision = specification check (e.g. window U-value/SHGC, insulation R-value). Major revision = design-change reassessment. Builders and designers: multi-dwelling and repeat rates — see builder packages.

The Geokal difference

Rated — then verified as built

We model your design in HERO for the building permit. With the Verified package we then return for As-Built Verification: checking that windows and glazing, insulation, Whole of Home services and airtightness match what was modelled. Airtightness is measured with a blower door test to AS/NZS ISO 9972 (ATTMA #13381). You receive a findings report and the non-regulatory Geokal Energy Efficiency Certificate of Compliance showing how the as-built result compares with the modelled rating.

Builders sign off energy items, glazing and sealing to the surveyor, but are not required to test or verify them. Not verifying is a risk for both builder and owner.

FAQ

Common questions

What do you need from me for a quote?

Working drawings (plans, elevations, sections), the site address or suburb and your target dates. If you already know your window and insulation specifications, include them.

How long does a NatHERS rating take?

Standard turnaround is 2–5 business days from complete working drawings. Priority 24–48 hour turnaround is available and is included in the Preferred and Verified packages.

Is Whole of Home included?

Yes. Whole of Home is included in every NatHERS package.

What counts as a minor or major revision?

A minor revision is a specification check, such as changing window U-value/SHGC or insulation R-values. A major revision is a reassessment after a design change. Each package includes a set number of each.

What is As-Built Verification?

It is the on-site check in the Verified package. We compare the finished home with the modelled NatHERS and Whole of Home specification: glazing (U-value / SHGC), insulation (R-values and coverage, with thermal imaging), services (heating/cooling, hot water, solar PV, lighting), and airtightness via a blower door test. You get a findings report and a non-regulatory certificate showing how the as-built result compares with the modelled rating.

Can a blower door test change the modelled star rating?

It can, in a non-regulatory re-rate. NatHERS software uses an air-leakage assumption when there is no measured result. If your home tests tighter — or leakier — we can re-rate in HERO using the measured ACH. This sits inside As-Built Verification in the Verified package; the permit rating itself stays as issued from the drawings.
